Renovating Without Altering: An Architectural Challenge
When renovating a château, hotel, restaurant, or conference hall, the goal is not just to restore a building—it’s about reviving a piece of history. Every detail matters in preserving the soul of the place, while also meeting modern comfort requirements, especially in terms of acoustics.
This is one of the greatest challenges of heritage renovation: how can we enhance acoustic comfort without compromising the historical aesthetic?
At Arketex, we recently took on this challenge during a renovation project in a historic château. Our mission: to install a custom acoustic ceiling, printed in high definition with an 18th-century fresco, to enhance the space while ensuring optimal sound quality.
A project that showcases our expertise in bespoke solutions, where technical innovation serves architectural heritage.

Acoustics: A Key Element in Historic Renovation
Historic buildings were not designed with modern acoustic standards in mind. Their original materials, often hard and reflective (woodwork, painted ceilings, stone floors), amplify sound and create an uncomfortable sound environment, particularly in:
- Restaurants and hotels, where excessive noise disrupts the guest experience.
- Conference rooms and event spaces, where poor acoustics affect speech clarity.
- Cultural venues and museums, where visitors expect a peaceful and immersive atmosphere.
In our château project, the original ceiling caused excessive sound reverberation, making conversations difficult and increasing noise fatigue.
An Invisible Yet Highly Effective Acoustic Solution
To solve this issue, we designed a printed acoustic stretch ceiling, featuring:
- A high-performance textile covering, providing optimal sound absorption and reducing .
- A high-definition historical visual, faithfully reproducing an 18th-century fresco to preserve the site’s character.
- A quick and clean installation, with no debris or disruption to the space.
- A truly bespoke service, meeting the highest standards of craftsmanship and heritage preservation.
The result: a warm and inviting atmosphere, where noise is no longer a distraction.
